Star is a city in Idaho, located mostly in northwestern Ada County. A small part of the city also stretches into nearby Canyon County. In 2020, the city had a population of 11,117 people. This was a big jump from 5,793 people in 2010.

The city got its name in the 1800s. Travelers on their way to Middleton and Boise used a star painted on the local schoolhouse to find their direction, especially east and west. The name stuck, and the area became known as Star, Idaho. Today, Star is a fast-growing suburb of Boise. Its schools are part of both the Middleton School District and the West Ada School District. Star is also part of the larger Boise metropolitan area.

Star is found in Idaho, at an elevation of about 2,470 feet (753 meters) above sea level. The city covers a total area of about 5.86 square miles (15.18 square kilometers). Most of this area, 5.82 square miles (15.07 square kilometers), is land. Only a small part, about 0.04 square miles (0.10 square kilometers), is water.

According to the census of 2020, there were 11,117 people living in Star. These people lived in 3,407 households. On average, there were about 2.67 people living in each household. About 80.1% of the homes were owned by the people living in them.

The census also looked at the different backgrounds of the people in Star. About 95.2% of the people were White. Other groups included 0.3% African American, 0.7% Native American, and 1.1% Asian.
