Stark City is a small town located in Newton County, Missouri. It is part of the Joplin, Missouri Metropolitan Area. In 2020, about 125 people lived there. The town is also very close to where the Second Battle of Newtonia happened during the American Civil War.

A Look Back in Time

Stark City wasn't always called that! It used to be known as Chester. The town's name changed to Stark City in the 1930s. A post office has been open in Stark City since 1912. The community was named after William P. Stark, who owned a plant nursery in the area.

Where is Stark City?

Stark City is located in Missouri, along Missouri Route 86. It is about nine miles east of a city called Neosho. The town of Newtonia is just one mile north. Another town, Fairview, is about six miles east along Route 86.

The village covers a total area of about 0.31 square miles (0.80 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.
