Stavely is a small town in southern Alberta, Canada. It is located about 110 kilometers (68 miles) south of Calgary. You can find it right on Highway 2. Stavely is also about 16 kilometers (10 miles) east of Willow Creek Provincial Park.

Exploring Stavely's Past
How Stavely Got Its Name
The town of Stavely was named after a man called Alexander Staveley Hill. He was a very important person. He was the managing director of the Oxley Ranching Company. This company was started in 1882 by John R Craig. They had a huge area of land, about 100,000 acres, for grazing animals.
The Railway and Grain Elevators
Long ago, the Canadian Pacific Railway used to run right through Stavely. This railway was very important for moving goods. However, the railway eventually closed down. Because of this, almost all of Stavely's tall grain elevators were removed. Only one of these historic buildings remains today.

The people who live in Stavely are known for being very friendly. They are also proud of their strong community spirit. This means they work together and support each other.

The World's First Indoor Rodeo
Stavely is famous for something very special: the Stavely Indoor Rodeo. This exciting event started way back in 1929. It holds the title of being the world's first indoor rodeo!

Sports and Recreation
Stavely has a 9-hole golf course called the Stavely Golf Club. It used to have sand greens, which were quite rare. Now, they have modern artificial greens.
There are many other places for fun and sports in town. You can find an arena for ice sports. There are also archery lanes for target practice. If you like camping, there's a recreational vehicle campground. You can also play baseball at the ball diamond or relax in the parks.

Stavely is also home to a museum. Here, you can learn all about the town's history. It's a great place to explore the past.
Nearby Nature Spots
Just 5 kilometers (3 miles) west of Stavely is the Pine Coulee Reservoir. This is a popular spot for outdoor activities and camping.
Clear Lake recreation area is another great place. It's about 19 kilometers (12 miles) east of Stavely. You can go camping and enjoy water sports there. Willow Creek Municipal Park is also nearby, about 16 kilometers (10 miles) west of town. It's another good spot for camping.
Learning and Helping Out
Stavely Elementary School
Stavely has one school, called Stavely Elementary School. Children from Kindergarten up to Grade 6 attend this school. The school was updated in 2002. Its motto is Every Child Shines, which means they believe every student is special.
Before 2002, older students (grades 7-9) went to A. J. Nowicki Jr. High School. That building is no longer there.
Supporting Future Students
The Stavely Education Foundation helps students who used to go to school in Stavely. They provide support for these students to go to college or university.
