Stefan Filipkiewicz showed his art for the first time in 1899. These early paintings were of the Tatra Mountains and the Podhale region. They were displayed in Kraków at a place called the Palace of Art.

From 1900 to 1908, Filipkiewicz studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. He learned from many famous artists there, including Józef Mehoffer, Leon Wyczółkowski, Jan Stanisławski, and Józef Pankiewicz.

Artistic Career and Achievements

In 1908, Stefan Filipkiewicz became a member of the Society of Polish Artists. This was an important group for artists in Poland. He also contributed his art to a famous art and literature club called Zielony Balonik.

Later Life and Legacy

When World War II began with the invasion of Poland in 1939, Stefan Filipkiewicz went to Hungary. There, he joined secret groups that were working against the occupation.

Sadly, he was arrested by the Gestapo, which was the secret police of Nazi Germany. He was sent to the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp. Stefan Filipkiewicz lost his life there on August 23, 1944. His beautiful landscape paintings continue to be admired today.
