Stephens is a small city located in the southwest part of Ouachita County, Arkansas. In 2020, about 770 people lived there. It is part of the larger Camden area. Stephens officially became a city in 1889.

Schools in Stephens

Students in Stephens attend schools that are part of the Camden Fairview School District. This includes Camden Fairview High School.

Stephens used to have its own school district, called the Stephens School District. This district ran Stephens High School. However, in April 2014, the Arkansas Board of Education decided to close the Stephens district. The part of the district in Ouachita County, which included about 140 students, was then moved to the Camden Fairview School District.

The Camden Fairview district took over the school buildings in Stephens. It was expected that the Camden Fairview district would give the Stephens school property to the city government of Stephens. In 2021, Stephens High School reopened as a private school. It is now owned by The Apostolic Church of Stephens (ACTS Church).
