Steven Zuber (born August 17, 1991) is a talented Swiss professional footballer. He plays as a winger, which means he plays on the sides of the field, for Swiss Super League club Zürich in Switzerland. He also plays for the Switzerland national team, representing his country in big tournaments.

Early Life and Family

Steven Zuber was born on August 17, 1991, in Winterthur, Switzerland. His parents are Walter and Susanne Zuber. He grew up with five siblings: Melanie, Kevin, Severin, David, and Marvin. In May 2015, he married his long-time girlfriend, Mirjana Vasović.

Steven Zuber has played for several football clubs in different countries throughout his career.

Playing for Grasshopper

Zuber started his professional career with Grasshopper in Switzerland. He made his first team debut in July 2008 in an Intertoto Cup match. Soon after, in August, he played his first game in the Swiss Super League. He played many games for Grasshopper, scoring 23 goals in 127 appearances.

Moving to CSKA Moscow

In July 2013, Zuber moved to Russia to play for CSKA Moscow, a big club that had just won the Russian league. He made his debut in the 2013 Russian Super Cup, which CSKA won 3–0. He played 29 games for them, scoring one goal.

Time at Hoffenheim

In August 2014, Zuber joined 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany. He played there for six years, extending his contract in 2017. During his time at Hoffenheim, he played 96 matches and scored 9 goals.

Loan to VfB Stuttgart

In January 2019, Zuber was loaned to VfB Stuttgart until the end of the season. He played 14 games and scored 5 goals during this loan period.

Joining Eintracht Frankfurt

In August 2020, Zuber moved to another German club, Eintracht Frankfurt. He signed a three-year contract as part of a player swap deal. He played 20 matches for Eintracht Frankfurt.

Success with AEK Athens

In August 2021, Zuber went on loan to AEK Athens, a club in Greece. He quickly became a very important player for them. In May 2022, AEK Athens decided to buy him permanently because of his great performance. He was a key player when AEK Athens won the Greek Superleague title in the 2022–23 season, scoring 8 goals in 28 matches. He continued to play for AEK Athens until 2024, making a total of 97 appearances and scoring 24 goals for the club.

Return to FC Zürich

In 2024, Steven Zuber returned to Switzerland to play for Zürich.

International Career

Steven Zuber has represented Switzerland at various levels, from youth teams to the senior national team.

He was part of the Switzerland U-17 squad and later played for the U-21 team. He also represented Switzerland at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Playing for the Senior Team

Zuber was first called up to the senior Switzerland team in March 2017. He was chosen for Switzerland's squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He played in the first two group games, even scoring a goal against Brazil in a 1–1 draw. He also played in the Round of 16 match against Sweden.

In May 2019, he played in the 2019 UEFA Nations League Finals, where his team finished in fourth place.

Zuber was also part of Switzerland's squad for UEFA Euro 2020. He played a very important role in Switzerland's victory over France in the Round of 16, providing an assist and helping his team win a penalty. He finished the tournament as the player with the most assists, having made 4.

He missed the 2022 FIFA World Cup due to an injury. However, he returned to play for Switzerland in 2023 and was selected for the preliminary squad for UEFA Euro 2024. Before the main tournament, he scored a goal from long distance in a friendly match against Estonia. As of July 2024, he has played 56 games for the national team and scored 11 goals.
