Steward Ceus's Soccer Journey
Early Days and College Soccer
Steward Ceus grew up playing many sports. At North Rockland High School, he was a star in soccer for all four years. He also played tennis and basketball! As a junior, he set a school record with 36 "shutouts" in soccer. A shutout means the goalkeeper didn't let the other team score any goals.
After high school, Ceus played college soccer at the University at Albany. He was a great student too, earning honors for his grades while playing. In his first year, he made 66 saves, which was one of the best in his league.
Becoming a Professional Player
In 2009, Steward Ceus was chosen by the Colorado Rapids in the MLS SuperDraft. This is like a draft for professional soccer teams in the United States. He joined the team and started his professional career.
To get more playing time and experience, he was loaned to the Charlotte Eagles in 2009 and 2010. A "loan" means a player temporarily plays for another team. He played several games for the Eagles during these periods.
After five seasons with the Colorado Rapids, Ceus moved on. In 2014, he went to Finland to play for a team called Närpes Kraft Fotbollsförening. He signed a one-year contract there and played in 25 games.
In 2015, Ceus came back to the United States. He signed with the Atlanta Silverbacks, another professional soccer team. He continued his career playing as a goalkeeper for them. Later, he also played for Minnesota United, San Francisco Deltas, and Colorado Springs Switchbacks. His last team was the New York Cosmos.
Playing for His Country: Haiti
Steward Ceus also represents his home country, Haiti, in international soccer matches. He made his first appearance for the Haitian national team in 2010. Playing for your country is a big honor for any athlete!
