Early Life and Nickname
Kirk Jones was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 3, 1973. He grew up in the Flatbush neighborhood. When he was a child, he dreamed of becoming a DJ.
Jones shared that his nickname "Sticky Fingaz" came from his younger days. It means someone who has a habit of taking things.
When he was 16, Jones moved to South Jamaica, Queens, to live with his cousin Fredro Starr. Fredro worked as a barber.
Music Career Highlights
Starting with Onyx
Fredro Starr, Big DS, and Sonny Seeza met Jam Master Jay in 1991. Jay asked them to create a demo. Because Big DS and Sonny Seeza could not make it, Fredro brought his cousin, Kirk Jones, to the studio. Kirk was working on his own music as "Trop" at the time. Fredro and Sticky Fingaz recorded two songs, "Stik 'N' Muve" and "Exercise."
In 1993, Onyx released their first album, Bacdafucup. It was a big hit and sold many copies, especially because of the song "Slam." Onyx then released two more albums with JMJ Records: All We Got Iz Us and Shut 'Em Down.
Solo Music Journey
In 2001, Jones released his first solo album, Black Trash: The Autobiography of Kirk Jones. This album told a story like a "hip-hopera" about a character named Kirk Jones. It was praised for being creative, even though it did not sell as many copies. Famous artists like Eminem and Redman were featured on the album.
His second album, Decade "...but wait it gets worse", came out in 2003. In 2019, he released his third album, It's About T.I.M.E.. This album was released as a "digital album movie." It tells the story of Sticky Fingaz's life, from his birth to joining Onyx.
Acting Roles
Jones has appeared in many TV shows and movies. He was a regular on the show Platinum as Grady Rhames. He also played Pvt. Maurice "Smoke" Williams in the TV series Over There, which was about American soldiers in Iraq.
He played Tyrone in the movie Next Friday. Jones also had a recurring role as Kern Little, a gang leader and musician, on the show The Shield. In 2006, Jones played the main character, Blade, in Blade: The Series on Spike TV.
Sticky Fingaz also wrote, co-produced, co-directed, and starred in the movie A Day in the Life. In 2019, he released It's About T.I.M.E., a film he wrote, directed, filmed, produced, and acted in. This movie is known for its "Digital Album Movie" format.
Jones had a role in Season 2 of Showtime's Flatbush Misdemeanors. He played Anthony, the brother of Drew, a character played by Hassan Johnson.
