The Journey of Stock Beck
Stock Beck begins its journey high up on Weets Hill. At first, it's known as Calf Hall Beck near Higher Laithe Farm. As it flows, it heads towards the northeast.
Through Barnoldswick
The beck then reaches the town of Barnoldswick. Here, it meets another stream called Gillians Beck. After this meeting, the river changes its name and becomes known as Butts Beck. It then leaves the town and turns northwest.
Meeting Other Streams
As it continues, Stock Beck meets more streams. These include Fools Syke and Hell Forest Dike, which join it near Gilbeber Hill. The river then flows under Monks Bridge, which is part of the busy A59 road near Horton. After this, it collects Horton Beck.
Towards the River Ribble
Stock Beck then heads west, picking up Flush Beck and Bottom Beck near the small village of Bracewell. Finally, after joining with Spittle Syke, it passes under the Stock Beck viaduct. This viaduct carries the Ribble Valley line railway and the A682 Long Preston road. The river then flows north of the village of Gisburn. Its journey ends when it flows into the larger River Ribble at Gisburne Park.
What are Tributaries?
A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger river. Stock Beck has several tributaries that add water to it along its path. These smaller streams help make Stock Beck bigger and stronger as it flows towards the River Ribble.
