Stoddard is a small village located in Vernon County, Wisconsin, in the United States. In 2020, about 840 people lived there. It's a quiet place with an interesting connection to the mighty Mississippi River.

History of Stoddard
Stoddard started as a community focused on farming. It's special because it was one of the few towns along the Mississippi River that was never a trading post or a stop for riverboats.
The Mississippi River used to be about a mile west of Stoddard. But in 1937, something big happened. A structure called Lock and Dam No. 8 was built. This created a large lake that flooded the low areas, bringing the river right up to the edge of the town.

The village covers a total area of about 1.84 square kilometers (0.71 square miles). Most of this area, about 1.65 square kilometers (0.64 square miles), is land. The rest, about 0.19 square kilometers (0.07 square miles), is water.

In 2019, 42 students were enrolled there. St. Matthew's also hosts a "Panther Sports Camp" every June for local families.
Transportation in Stoddard
If you need to travel from Stoddard, there is a bus service. It goes towards La Crosse or Prairie du Chien. The bus runs three times a day in each direction. This service is provided by Scenic Mississippi Regional Transit.
