Stojan Andov (Macedonian: Стојан Андов; born November 30, 1935 – died June 18, 2024) was an important Macedonian politician. He helped start the Liberal Party of Macedonia. He also served as the president of the Parliament from 1993 to 1997.

Early Life and Learning
Stojan Andov was born in November 1935 in Kavadarci, a town in what was then Yugoslavia. Today, Kavadarci is part of North Macedonia. He went to both primary and high school there.
Later, Andov studied at the Faculty of Economics in Skopje. He then earned a higher degree, called a master's degree, from the University of Belgrade.
He lived in Belgrade from 1975 to 1981 with his wife, Marija. They had two children, a son named Bosko and a daughter named Liljana.
In 1995, Andov traveled to the United States. There, he met with former US president Bill Clinton. Stojan Andov also became an author. He wrote several books, including "My Own Way" and "Travels in the Far East - Iraq."
Political Career
Stojan Andov had a long and active career in politics. He was chosen to be the vice-president of the Macedonian Government. He also represented Macedonia in the government of former Yugoslavia. He served in the federal government three times.
From 1986 to 1990, he was the ambassador for Yugoslavia in Iraq. An ambassador is a country's official representative in another country. His time in Iraq inspired him to write his book, "Travels in the Far East - Iraq."
Leading the Liberal Party
Andov was a founder of the Liberal Party. He led the party as its president from 1990 to 1997. He was the very first president of the Parliament of the independent Republic of Macedonia. He held this important role from January 8, 1991, to March 6, 1996.
After the Liberal Party joined with another party, Andov became the president of the new party's council. When the Liberal Party of Macedonia was restarted in 1999, he was again elected to a leadership role. He was re-elected as president of the Liberal Party in 2001 and again in 2004.
President of the Assembly
In the 1990 elections, Andov was elected as a member of the Assembly. The Assembly is like a country's main law-making body. He became the President of the Assembly in January 1991.
He was re-elected as a Member of Parliament and President of the Assembly in the 1994 elections. He kept this position until 1996. During this time, from October 1995 to January 1996, he also served as the temporary president of the Republic of Macedonia. This happened when the actual president, Kiro Gligorov, was unwell.
Andov was elected as a Member of the Assembly again in 1998. He also led the Parliamentary Committee on money and banking. In 1999, he ran to become the President of the Republic of Macedonia. On November 30, 2000, he was elected President of the Assembly once more. He served in this role until September 2002.
He continued to be a member of the Assembly. He also led the Liberal Party's group in the Assembly. Andov was also president of the committee that looked after citizens' freedoms and rights.
Stojan Andov passed away on June 18, 2024, in Skopje. He was 88 years old.
