How Stove Top Stuffing Was Invented
The person who first created Stove Top stuffing was a home economist named Ruth Siems. She was the first name listed on the U.S. Patent for the product. Her special idea was using a certain size of bread crumbs. These crumbs made it easy for the stuffing to soak up water quickly.
In an interview in 1991, Ruth Siems explained that the idea for instant stuffing came from the marketing team. But it was up to the research and development staff to figure out how to make it. Many chefs and workers tried to create the product. However, Ruth Siems's idea was the one the company chose. The original idea was for a stuffing-flavored rice. After that showed promise, Siems developed the bread crumb dish we know today.
