Sudhakarrao Rajusing Naik (born August 21, 1934, died May 10, 2001) was an important Indian politician. He was a member of the Indian National Congress party. He served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from June 25, 1991, to February 22, 1993.
Sudhakarrao Naik helped improve the Panchayat Raj system in Maharashtra. This system helps local villages manage their own affairs. He also started an "irrigation revolution" in the state, which means he worked to bring more water to farms. Because of this, he is sometimes called the "hero of Jalkranti" (water revolution).

Sudhakarrao Naik's Political Journey
Sudhakarrao Naik began his political career in his village. He started as a Sarpanch, which is like a village head. This role helped him understand the needs of people in rural areas.
Serving in the State Assembly
He was elected five times to the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha. This is the state's legislative assembly, where laws are made. He represented the Pusad (Vidhan Sabha constituency) from 1978 to 1980, 1980 to 1985, 1985 to 1990, 1990 to 1995, and again from 1999 to 2001.
Becoming Chief Minister
Sudhakarrao Naik became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra in 1991. This is the highest political position in the state. He held this important role until 1993. During his time as Chief Minister, he focused on making government decisions faster. He also worked to give more power to local village councils.
Helping with Water
One of his most remembered achievements was his work in water conservation. He understood how important water was for farming and daily life. His efforts helped bring better irrigation to many parts of Maharashtra. This improved the lives of many farmers.
Other Important Roles
After being Chief Minister, Sudhakarrao Naik served as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. This is another important state-level position. He was Governor from July 30, 1994, to September 17, 1995.
Later, in 1998, he was elected as a Member of Parliament. He represented the Washim (Lok Sabha constituency) in the national parliament. This showed his long and varied career in public service.
