Caron Nimoy "Sugaray" Rayford, born on February 13, 1969, is an American singer and songwriter. He is famous for his soulful blues music. He has released several albums and won many awards for his music. His album, Somebody Save Me, was even nominated for a Grammy Award in 2020! Music critics have praised his powerful voice and soulful style. His most recent album, In Too Deep, came out in 2022.

The Story of Sugaray Rayford

Sugaray Rayford was born in Smith County, Texas. When he was just seven years old, he started singing and playing drums at the Bethel Temple Church in Tyler, Texas. His childhood was tough, and his mother passed away when he was young. He later moved in with his grandmother, which made life much better. He loved being in church every day, where he grew up singing gospel and soul music.

Starting His Music Journey

When Sugaray was 12, he moved to San Diego, California. He began singing contemporary music with a group called Urban Gypsys. Later, he found his passion for the blues. He became the lead singer for a band called Aunt Kizzy's Boyz.

Their first album, Trunk Full of Blues, came out in 2004. In 2006, they competed in the International Blues Challenge and finished as runners-up. Their second album, It's Tight Like That, was released in 2007. The band also won an award called 'Urban Artist of the Year'.

Solo Career and Big Shows

In 2010, Sugaray released his first solo album, Blind Alley. The next year, he joined a band called The Mannish Boys. He sang on nine songs for their album, Double Dynamite. This album won the Best Traditional Blues Album award in 2013.

In 2012, Sugaray performed in a musical called It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues. He moved to Los Angeles and started doing vocal work for movies and TV shows. He even sang on the theme song for Judge Joe Brown.

His album Dangerous came out in 2013. Other famous musicians like Kim Wilson and Sugar Ray Norcia joined him on this album. The album quickly became popular on blues music charts.

Sugaray Rayford has been nominated for many important awards. In 2015, he released his album Southside. Then, in 2017, his fourth album, The World That We Live In, came out.

In 2019, Sugaray won the 'Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year' award. His album, Somebody Save Me, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2020. This was for the Best Contemporary Blues Album category.

In 2020, he won two more Blues Music Awards: 'B.B King Entertainer of the Year' and 'Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year'. His newest album, In Too Deep, was released in March 2022. This album was named 'Soul Blues Album of the Year' at the 2023 Blues Music Awards.
