Sulphide Lake is a beautiful lake found high up in the mountains. It is located in the North Cascades National Park in the state of Washington, United States. This lake sits in a special bowl-shaped area on the side of Mount Shuksan. This bowl was carved out long ago by a glacier.

Where is Sulphide Lake Located?

Sulphide Lake is nestled within the amazing North Cascades National Park. This park is in Whatcom County, Washington. The lake is quite high up, at an elevation of about 3,806 feet (1,160 meters) above sea level. It lies on the southeast slopes of a very tall mountain called Mount Shuksan.

Waterfalls and Flowing Water

Sulphide Lake is fed by several large waterfalls. These waterfalls drop as much as 1,000 feet (305 meters) into the lake. One of these is Sulphide Basin Falls. This waterfall gets its water from the melting ice of the Sulphide Glacier.

After the water fills Sulphide Lake, it flows out through a stream called Sulphide Creek. This creek then plunges down the mountain. It falls over 2,000 feet (610 meters) through a series of cascades. These are known as Sulphide Creek Falls. This series of waterfalls is one of the tallest in the United States!
