Sun Weiben (Chinese: 孙维本; 19 November 1928 – 18 December 2020) was an important Chinese politician. He served as the top leader of Heilongjiang province from 1985 to 1994. He was also the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Heilongjiang People's Congress from 1988 to 1998.
Mr. Sun spent most of his early career in Liaoning province. Later, he became a key leader in the nearby Heilongjiang province. He was a member of important national committees for many years. He also served as a representative in China's national parliament, the National People's Congress, multiple times.

Early Life and Career
Sun Weiben was born in Gaizhou, Liaoning province, on November 19, 1928. He joined the Chinese Communist Party in October 1947.
Before he started working in politics in March 1951, he was an accountant. He spent ten years working in the Communist Party's organization department in Shenyang. In January 1961, he became the Communist Party Secretary of Xifeng County. He held this position until July 1965.
After that, he was appointed Communist Party Secretary of Kaiyuan County. He held this role for about twenty months.
Challenges and Return to Leadership
In March 1967, during a difficult time known as the Cultural Revolution, Sun Weiben faced challenges. He was sent to a special school to do farm work.
In May 1970, he returned to public service. He became the Deputy Communist Party Secretary of Faku County. He held this position until April 1974. After that, he again became the Communist Party Secretary of Xifeng County.
He then became the Communist Party Secretary of Tieling in February 1976. He served in this role until March 1982. In March 1982, he became a member of the top committee in Liaoning province. He rose to become the Communist Party Secretary (deputy leader) of Liaoning.
Leading Heilongjiang Province
In the autumn of 1985, Sun Weiben moved from Liaoning province to Heilongjiang province. He was promoted to be the Communist Party Secretary of Heilongjiang in October 1985. This was a very important leadership role.
From January 1988, he also held the position of Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Heilongjiang People's Congress. He held both of these major roles for several years.
Later Life
Sun Weiben passed away from illness on December 18, 2020. He was 92 years old. He died in Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang province.
