Sunnyslope is a community in Chelan County, Washington, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own city government. It's also a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means the government counts its population for statistics.

Sunnyslope is part of the larger Wenatchee area. In 2020, about 4,041 people lived there. This was an increase from 3,252 people in 2010. Sunnyslope is known for having one of the highest average incomes per person in Chelan County.

Geography of Sunnyslope

Sunnyslope is located in the southern part of Chelan County. It sits where two important rivers meet: the Columbia River to the east and the Wenatchee River to the south. The city of Wenatchee is right across the Wenatchee River to the south.

Major Roads and Rivers

Two main roads, U.S. Route 2 and U.S. Route 97, go through the southern part of Sunnyslope. These roads follow the Wenatchee River valley. They cross the Columbia River into Douglas County using the Richard Odabashian Bridge. Another road, State Route 285, leads south from these main routes into Wenatchee.

Land and Water Area

The United States Census Bureau measures the size of places. Sunnyslope covers about 26.0 square kilometers (about 10.0 square miles) in total. Most of this area, about 24.8 square kilometers (9.6 square miles), is land. The rest, about 1.3 square kilometers (0.5 square miles), is water, making up almost 5% of its total area.

Natural Attractions

The main office for the Okanogan–Wenatchee National Forest is located in Sunnyslope. This forest is managed by the United States Forest Service. Sunnyslope is also home to Ohme Gardens, which is a beautiful alpine garden. It's on a hill and offers great views of the community and the Columbia River.

Olds Station Area

The area south of U.S. Routes 2 and 97 is often called "Olds Station." This name is even used on signs. The Richard Odabashian Bridge, which carries the main roads and a walking trail over the Columbia River, used to be known by a name that included "Olds Station."

History of Olds Station

Olds Station was built in 1914 by the Great Northern Railroad. It was named after the Olds Company, a fruit orchard business. Alfred J. Olds and his three sons owned this company, and they donated the land where the station was built.

Sunnyslope gets most of its public services from Chelan County. This means the county helps provide things like safety, utilities, and education.

Safety and Utilities

The Chelan County sheriff's department is in charge of keeping the community safe. Sunnyslope is also the main location for Chelan County Fire District 1, which provides fire protection. Utility services, like electricity, water, and internet (fiber optic), are provided by the Chelan County Public Utility District Number 1.

Schools and Transportation

Students in Sunnyslope attend schools in the Wenatchee School District #246. Younger students go to Sunnyslope Elementary School. After elementary school, students attend Foothills Middle School and then Wenatchee High School.

For transportation, Link Transit serves Sunnyslope. There's a transfer station at the Food Pavilion Plaza, and a bus route runs along Easy Street, helping people get around.
