Sunrise, also known as Sunrise Boulevard, is a cool neighborhood located in the city of Long Beach, California. In 1990, the city officially named it the "Sunrise Boulevard Historic Landmark District." This means it's a special place with important old buildings and history.

Exploring the History of Sunrise
The Sunrise neighborhood has a really interesting past! It started out as a ranch, which is a large farm for raising animals. Later, it became a milk sanitarium, a place where people went to get healthy, often by drinking milk.
How Sunrise Grew
The neighborhood grew up right next to the Pacific Electric Railway Balboa Line. This was a train line that helped people travel and goods move around. Most of the houses you see in Sunrise today are called Craftsman Bungalows. These homes were built between 1908 and 1924. They range from big, fancy houses to smaller homes for workers.
The El Cortez Motor Court
In 1937, a place called the El Cortez was built. It was an early "motor court," which was like a motel where people traveling by car could stay. It was built on the same spot where the old milk sanitarium used to be. Today, the El Cortez is still there, but it's now an apartment building called the El Cortez Motor Court Apartments.
