Sunset is an exciting fantasy novel. It is the sixth and final book in the Warriors: The New Prophecy series by Erin Hunter. This book continues the adventures of the wild cat Clans.
The story begins with ThunderClan rebuilding their home. A big badger attack had damaged it in the previous book, Twilight. Old friends, Stormfur and Brook, come to help. As the story goes on, Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight become close again. They had a disagreement before, but now they are in love.
However, Brambleclaw still has secret dreams. In these dreams, he meets the spirit of his evil father, Tigerstar. Brambleclaw convinces Firestar, the leader of ThunderClan, to choose a new deputy. A deputy is like a second-in-command. Firestar's old deputy, Graystripe, had been missing for a long time. Brambleclaw is surprised when Firestar chooses him as the new deputy.
Later, Brambleclaw's half-brother, Hawkfrost, tries to kill Firestar. Hawkfrost wants Brambleclaw to become the leader of ThunderClan. But Brambleclaw saves Firestar and kills Hawkfrost instead. This event makes a special prophecy come true: "Before there is peace, blood will spill blood and the lake will run red."
Sunset was first released on December 26, 2006, in the United States. It came out as a hardcover book. Later, it was also released as a paperback, an e-book, and an audiobook. The audiobook was read by Nanette Savard. Many people liked her reading. The book itself received good reviews from readers and critics.

What Happens in the Story?
Rebuilding and New Beginnings
After a fierce badger attack, much of ThunderClan's camp is destroyed. Brook Where Small Fish Swim (Brook) and Stormfur, who are old friends of ThunderClan, help the cats rebuild their home. The battle was very tough. The medicine cat, Cinderpelt, and a warrior named Sootfur both die.
After the battle, Squirrelflight's feelings for Brambleclaw grow strong again. They had a fight in the last book. Because of this, Squirrelflight had spent time with Ashfur. But now, she and Ashfur have an argument.
All the Clans are sad about Cinderpelt's death. Leafpool, who is also a medicine cat, feels confused. She has not seen Cinderpelt's spirit among StarClan. StarClan are the spirits of the cats' ancestors. Medicine cats visit a place called the Moonpool to share dreams with StarClan. During one visit, an old medicine cat named Spottedleaf appears to Leafpool in a dream. Spottedleaf shows Leafpool that Cinderpelt has been reborn. She is now a tiny kit named Cinderkit. Cinderpelt died protecting Cinderkit and her siblings.
A New Deputy for ThunderClan
For many months, ThunderClan's leader, Firestar, waits for his deputy, Graystripe, to return. Graystripe was taken away by humans in an earlier book. Brambleclaw, Stormfur, Leafpool, and Firestar's mate, Sandstorm, all talk to Firestar. They convince him that Graystripe is not coming back.
Then, Leafpool has a dream from StarClan. The dream tells her that Brambleclaw should be the new deputy. Firestar agrees and names Brambleclaw as his second-in-command. Some cats in the Clan are not happy with this choice. They say Brambleclaw has never trained an apprentice. Training an apprentice is usually a rule for becoming deputy. Firestar explains that Brambleclaw will train Berrykit when Berrykit is old enough. He also tells them about Leafpool's dream from StarClan. This helps everyone understand the decision.
A Dangerous Plan Unfolds
Tigerstar, an evil cat who is dead, still visits his sons in their dreams. His sons are Hawkfrost and Brambleclaw, who have different mothers. When Brambleclaw becomes deputy, Tigerstar tells them his big plan. He wants Brambleclaw to take over ThunderClan and WindClan. He wants Hawkfrost to take over RiverClan and ShadowClan. Brambleclaw strongly refuses this idea. But he agrees to meet Hawkfrost later to make up a different plan.
During their meeting, Brambleclaw hears a cat crying out in pain. He finds Firestar caught in a fox trap, which is a wire snare. Hawkfrost tells Brambleclaw to kill Firestar. If Firestar dies, Brambleclaw would become the new leader. Brambleclaw struggles with what to do. But he decides not to kill Firestar. Instead, he frees Firestar from the trap. Hawkfrost then attacks Brambleclaw. Brambleclaw fights back and kills Hawkfrost. He uses the sharp stick from the trap to stab Hawkfrost's neck. Before Hawkfrost dies, he tells Brambleclaw that another ThunderClan warrior helped him. He also says their fight is not truly over.
The Prophecy Comes True
A prophecy given to Leafpool in an earlier book finally comes true. The prophecy said: "Before there is peace, blood will spill blood, and the lake will run red." Brambleclaw and Hawkfrost are half-brothers. This means they share the same blood. As Hawkfrost falls towards the lake, blood pours from his neck. This makes the lake water turn red.
