Ohio Key is a small island in the beautiful Florida Keys. It's located around mile marker 39 on US 1, also known as the Overseas Highway. You can find it between Missouri Key and Bahia Honda Key.
Today, many people know this island as Sunshine Key. This name comes from a popular camping resort located there. A part of the island, south of US 1, is a protected area called the Ohio Key National Wildlife Refuge. This refuge helps protect the island's natural environment.
Exploring Ohio Key's Past Names
Ohio Key wasn't always called by its current name. In the past, it was known as Little Duck Key. However, the name Little Duck Key is now used for a different, much smaller island. This smaller island is about one mile (1.6 km) to the east. It marks the western end of the famous Seven Mile Bridge.
