About the Show
This exciting show follows three brave sumo wrestler brothers: Booma, Kimo, and Mamoo. They are crimefighters who go on many adventures. They use their incredible strength and large size to battle villains.
In most episodes, a group called "Bad Inc" tries to cause trouble in Generic City. Their plans often involve creating huge monsters. Ms. Mister, the boss of Bad Inc, usually asks her mad scientist, Dr. Stinger, to make these monsters. Even though Ms. Mister often gets mad and "fires" Dr. Stinger, he always seems to be back at work in the next episode!
When things get tough, the sumo brothers use their special "Sumo Size" power. This makes them even stronger, more muscular, and much bigger! Each sumo has a unique move they use when they are Sumo Sized. When they need help, they often remember lessons from their wise teacher, Wisdom San. Their friend, Prima, also helps them with good advice. The sumos get their powers from something called "P.H.A.T.", which stands for Peace, Honor, and Truth.
Meet the Characters
The Super Duper Sumos
- Mamoo: He is the most thoughtful of the sumo brothers and their unofficial leader. Mamoo fights for Truth. He loves to cook and eat! His special move is "Sumo Squeeze," a powerful bear hug.
- Kimo: This sumo brother has a calm, Zen-like attitude, like a samurai. Kimo fights for Honor. He sometimes seems to know what will happen in the future! His special move is "Honorable Thunderball," where he rolls into a ball and launches himself at enemies.
- Booma: Booma is the most energetic and childlike sumo, and he talks like a surfer. He fights for Peace. Booma is very proud of his powerful body. His special move is "Gluteus Maximus," where he lands on an opponent with great force.
Friends and Mentors
- Prima: She is a smart and sensible friend to the Sumos. Prima often helps them, even though their silly ways can sometimes be annoying.
- Wisdom San: This wise teacher raised the Sumos from when they were babies. He taught them all about P.H.A.T. Wisdom San often appears in flashbacks, sharing important lessons. He is a calm, mystic-like figure who meditates a lot.
- Shemo: Shemo is the Sumos' long-lost sister! She was separated from them as a baby and raised by yaks. She grew up to be a superhero who protects Kyoto. Shemo is a very skilled fighter. She once helped her brothers defeat Bad Inc before returning to her home.
- The Gyoji: This quiet, funny character often appears when the Sumos are about to fight. He pops out from unexpected places, like a mailbox, to watch the action!
The Villains of Bad Inc
- Ms. Mister: She is the main villain and the boss of Bad Inc. Ms. Mister is always trying to destroy Generic City and defeat the Sumos. She orders Dr. Stinger to create all the monsters. She also wears a special pendant that can summon Genghis Fangus.
- Billy "BS" Swift: He works for Bad Inc and handles their plans. Billy always wears a black shirt and sunglasses. He tries to make sure Bad Inc's plans work so Ms. Mister doesn't get angry.
- Dr. Stinger: This green-skinned mad scientist creates all the giant monsters and robots for Bad Inc. He often tries to impress Ms. Mister. Dr. Stinger is a bit childish, and Ms. Mister often "fires" him loudly, but he always comes back!
- Genghis Fangus: He is a ghostly villain who Ms. Mister can summon with her pendant. Genghis Fangus loves to tell the other villains how things were done in his day. He tried to conquer the world a long time ago but was stopped by Wisdom San.
- The Evil Sumos: These powerful fighters were created to battle the Super Duper Sumos. They sometimes return to help Bad Inc. They include He of the Extra Arms, He of the Big Iron Chest, and He of the Third Butt Cheek.

How the Show Was Made
The creation of Super Duper Sumos began in October 1999. DIC Entertainment from the United States teamed up with Ameko Entertainment from South Korea. This partnership was special because it was the first time DIC worked with a Korean company to co-produce an animated series, not just outsource parts of it.
Production for the series officially started in July 2000. DIC handled distributing the show around the world, except in Korea, where Ameko managed it.
Where It Aired
The show first aired in the United Kingdom on CBBC on September 22, 2001. After its UK debut, the series was sold to many other broadcasters. These included Antena 3 in Spain, YTV in Canada, Mediaset in Italy, and Foxtel (on Fox Kids) in Australia. It also aired on Fox Kids in Latin America, Disney Channel in Asia, and RCTV in Venezuela.
In the United States, the series premiered on Nickelodeon on April 7, 2002. Reruns of the show were also broadcast in 2005. Later, in 2003, it also aired on Disney Channel in France.
Cool Stuff and Games
Toys and Products
In October 2001, DIC made a deal with a UK toy company, Martin Yaffe International. They worked together to create toys and other merchandise based on the show for Europe. DIC's own Consumer Products division also handled other types of products.
Video Game Fun
A video game based on the series was made for the Game Boy Advance. It was developed by Midway Games and released on October 26, 2003.
Watch at Home
You could also watch Super Duper Sumos at home! In 2002, ADV Films got the rights to release the series on VHS and DVD. They released the first five episodes on a volume called "They've got Guts!" in February 2003. ADV then released five more volumes throughout that year.
Later, in July 2010, Mill Creek Entertainment released a DVD collection called Super Duper Sumos: They've Got Guts!. This collection included 10 episodes and a bonus episode from another show, World of Quest.
