The Story of Super Hungama
How the Channel Started
In December 2004, The Walt Disney Company launched two TV channels in India. These were Disney Channel and Toon Disney. They wanted to reach more viewers in South Asia. Both channels showed programs in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Toon Disney first started with English, Tamil, and Telugu languages. A Hindi language option was added on September 1, 2005. Toon Disney also had a special section of shows called the Jetix programming block.
Becoming Disney XD
In November 2009, Disney XD took the place of both Toon Disney and Jetix. For a while, the channel stopped being available in Bangladesh in February 2013.
The Marvel HQ Years
Marvel HQ replaced the Indian version of Disney XD on January 20, 2019. Disney India felt that Marvel was very popular. They thought it deserved its own dedicated channel. This channel was made for kids aged 6 to 17. It showed action-adventure cartoons and live-action shows.
When Marvel HQ first launched, it had four main Marvel animated shows. These shows made up about 40 percent of the channel's schedule. More Marvel cartoons were added later in March 2019. Over time, other popular animated shows were also added. These included Pokémon and Beyblade.
Changing to Super Hungama
On October 18, 2021, Disney announced that Marvel HQ would change its name. It was going to become Super Hungama on December 1. However, the change was delayed by one day. This was because of some rules about TV channels in India. The rebrand finally happened on March 1, 2022.
