Supriya Pathak Kapur (born on January 7, 1961) is a talented Indian actress. She acts in movies and TV shows in both Gujarati and Hindi languages. Many people know her best for playing the funny character Hansa Parekh in the Khichdi TV series and movies.

Supriya has won many awards for her acting. These include a Filmfare OTT Award and three Filmfare Awards. She also starred in the popular TV show Idhar Udhar in the 1980s.

Supriya is the younger daughter of the famous actress Dina Pathak. In 1988, she married her second husband, actor Pankaj Kapur. They have a daughter and a son together. Her sister is also a well-known actress, Ratna Pathak Shah. Ratna is married to actor Naseeruddin Shah. Supriya's step-son is the popular actor Shahid Kapoor.

Early Life and Education

Supriya Pathak was born in Mumbai, India, on January 7, 1961. Her mother, Dina Pathak, was a famous theater artist and actress from Gujarat. Her father, Baldev Pathak, was a dressmaker for movie stars.

Supriya has an older sister named Ratna Pathak, who is also an actress. Supriya grew up in a part of Mumbai called Parsi Colony. She went to J. B. Vachha High School.

She studied Fine art at the Nalanda Dance Research Centre. This is part of the University of Mumbai. She earned a bachelor's degree and specialized in Bharatanatyam, a classical Indian dance style.

Supriya's Acting Career

Supriya Pathak started her acting journey in plays. Her mother directed her first play, Maina Gurjari. After that, she performed in another play called Biwiyon Ka Madersa.

A famous actress named Jennifer Kendall saw Supriya perform. Jennifer recommended her to director Shyam Benegal. This led to Supriya's first movie role in Kalyug (1981). This movie was based on the ancient Indian story Mahabharata. Supriya played the role of Subhadra and won her first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She then acted in several other movies in the 1980s. Some of these include Vijeta (1982), Bazaar (1982), and Masoom (1983). She also had a small part in the movie Gandhi (1982). In 1988, she appeared in a French film called The Bengali Night.

Television Roles

Supriya Pathak has also been very active in television. She starred in popular TV shows like Idhar Udhar and Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka. Her most famous TV role is Hansa Parekh in Khichdi. She also appeared in Baa Bahoo Aur Baby.

In 1994, Supriya and her husband, Pankaj Kapur, started their own TV production company. Their first TV show was Mohandas B.A.L.L.B.

Return to Films

After taking a break from acting for 11 years, Supriya returned to movies in 2005. She starred in Sarkar and its sequel, Sarkar Raj (2008). In Wake Up Sid (2009), she played a mother trying to understand her son.

A big moment in her career was playing the strong character Dhankor Baa in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013). This role was very different from her usual characters. In 2016, she acted in her first Gujarati film, Carry On Kesar.

Personal Life and Family

Supriya Pathak got married for the first time when she was 22, but that marriage ended quickly. In 1986, she met her second husband, actor Pankaj Kapur, while working on a movie. They dated for two years and got married in 1988.

Supriya and Pankaj have two children. Their daughter, Sanah, was born in 1993. Their son, Ruhaan, was born in 1997. In 2022, their daughter Sanah married Mayank Pahwa. In 2023, their son Ruhaan married Manukriti Pahwa. Both Mayank and Manukriti are children of actors Manoj Pahwa and Seema Bhargava Pahwa.
