Suzana Herculano-Houzel is a famous Brazilian neuroscientist. She was born in 1972. She studies how brains work, especially by comparing the brains of different animals.
One of her big discoveries was a new way to count the tiny cells called neurons in brains. She also found out how the size and folds of the brain's outer layer, called the cerebral cortex, are connected.

About Suzana Herculano-Houzel
Suzana Herculano-Houzel was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She loved learning about biology and earned her first degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
Her Education Journey
She continued her studies in the United States and France. She earned a master's degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1995. Then, she got her doctorate in neuroscience from Paris VI University in 1999. She also did special research at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research.
Teaching and Research
From 2002 to 2016, Suzana was a professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. In 2016, she moved to the United States to work at Vanderbilt University.
Sharing Science with Everyone
Suzana is great at explaining science to people of all ages. She has written books that make science easy to understand. She also writes articles for newspapers like Folha de S.Paulo and magazines like Scientific American Brazil.
In 2013, she became the first Brazilian to give a talk at TED Global. This is a famous event where people share big ideas. She won the José Reis Prize for Science Communication in 2004. This award recognized her efforts to share science with the public.
