A Look Back: Swanton's History
Swanton was first called Morris. It was founded in 1883 when the railroad reached this spot. However, there was another town named Morris in Nebraska. To avoid confusion, the village was renamed Swanton. It got its new name from the nearby Swan Creek.

- Willard Schmidt was born in Swanton. He won a gold medal in basketball at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. He graduated from Swanton High School in 1928.
