Swara Bhasker (born on April 9, 1988) is an actress from India. She is famous for her work in Hindi movies. Swara is known for playing important supporting roles in big films and lead roles in smaller, independent movies. She has won two Screen Awards and has been nominated for four Filmfare Awards.

Swara started her acting journey in 2009 with the movie Madholal Keep Walking. She became more widely known in 2011 for her role in the popular romantic comedy Tanu Weds Manu. This role earned her praise and a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She received more awards for her acting in the drama Raanjhanaa (2013), which led to another Filmfare nomination. In 2015, she returned in Tanu Weds Manu Returns, the sequel to Tanu Weds Manu. She also appeared in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Both of these movies were among the highest-earning Bollywood films that year.

Swara also gained praise for her main roles in the independent films Nil Battey Sannata (2016) and Anaarkali of Aarah (2017). She won the Screen Award for Best Actress (Critics) for Nil Battey Sannata. In 2018, she starred in the comedy-drama Veere Di Wedding, which earned her a third nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Early Life and Education

Swara Bhasker was born in Delhi, India, on April 9, 1988. Her father, C. Uday Bhaskar, was an officer in the Indian Navy. Her mother, Ira Bhaskar, is a professor who teaches about cinema at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.

Swara grew up in Delhi and went to Sardar Patel Vidyalaya for her schooling. She then studied English literature at Delhi University's Miranda House. Later, she earned her master's degree in sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.

Acting Career Journey

Before becoming a film actress, Swara Bhasker was part of a theater group called "Act One" in Delhi. She moved to Mumbai in 2008 and made her first film appearance in Madholal Keep Walking in 2009. This movie was shown at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival.

She then had a supporting role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's drama Guzaarish (2010), starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai. Swara also appeared in The Untitled Kartik Krishnan Project, which was an independent film.

Rising to Fame

Swara became widely known after her supporting role in the successful romantic comedy Tanu Weds Manu in 2011. She played Payal, the best friend of the main character, played by Kangana Ranaut. Her performance was highly praised and earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2013, she played the main role in Listen... Amaya. She also appeared in Raanjhanaa with Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor. This movie was one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films that year. Swara received great reviews and another Filmfare nomination for her role as Bindiya in Raanjhanaa.

Swara also hosted a television mini-series called Samvidhaan in 2014. This show was about how the Indian Constitution was created. She also appeared as a guest on a Pakistani TV comedy show called Mazaaq Raat in 2015.

Continued Success

In 2015, Swara had three movie releases. She played Payal again in Tanu Weds Manu Returns, the sequel to her earlier hit. Both the film and her acting received great reviews. The movie was also a big financial success.

Her next film was the family drama Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, where she played Rajkumari Chandrika alongside Salman Khan and Sonam Kapoor. This film was also one of the highest-earning Indian films of the year.

In 2016, Swara starred in Nil Battey Sannata. She played the role of a mother to a teenager. The film and Swara's performance were highly praised. She won the Best Actress award at the Silk Road International Film Festival for this role. She also started working in web series with It's Not That Simple, a show about relationships and a woman's role in marriage.

In 2018, Swara starred in the romantic comedy Veere Di Wedding with Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, and Shikha Talsania. The movie is about four friends on a trip. Her performance in this film earned her a third nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Personal Life

Swara Bhasker has often spoken up about important social issues. On February 16, 2023, she married Fahad Ahmad. Later that year, on September 23, they welcomed their daughter, Rabiya.
