Swayzee is a small town located in Grant County, Indiana, United States. It's part of Sims Township. In 2020, about 918 people lived there.
Swayzee is famous for its welcome sign, which proudly states it's "the only Swayzee in the world." This special motto comes from a story during World War II. A soldier sent a postcard from overseas with only "Swayzee" written on it, without mentioning Indiana or any other details. Amazingly, the postcard still made it to the town!

History of Swayzee
The land where Swayzee now stands was first owned by a person named James Swayzee. That's how the town got its name.
Ancient Discoveries Near Swayzee
Close to Swayzee, at the Pipe Creek Junior limestone quarry, a very important discovery was made in 1996. Scientists found the Pipe Creek Sinkhole. This site has given us amazing fossils from the Pliocene epoch, which was millions of years ago. These fossils help us learn about ancient life.
Geography and Location
Swayzee is located in Indiana, about eight miles west of the city of Marion.
Roads and Travel
You can reach Swayzee by State Road 13, which runs north and south through the town along Washington Street. Also, State Road 22 and U.S. Route 35 pass about two and a half miles south of the town, running east and west.

According to the 2010 census, Swayzee covers a total area of about 0.47 square miles (1.21 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

Basketball Record
Swayzee holds a state record in basketball! On March 15, 1964, the local high school team played a game against Liberty Center. The game went into nine overtimes, which is a lot! Swayzee won the game 65-61. This amazing record is even mentioned on the town's welcome sign.

The town also has a public library called the Swayzee Public Library. It's a place where people can borrow books and other materials.
