Swinton is a neighbourhood located in the eastern part of Glasgow, a large city in Scotland. It sits just north of areas like Baillieston and Garrowhill, and east of Springhill. Swinton is now considered the same place as the old 19th-century village of Easterhouse. However, the much larger housing area also called Easterhouse is actually across the M8 motorway to the north.
What is Swinton Like?
Swinton is a lively part of Glasgow. It has grown a lot over the years. Many of the homes you see today were built from the 1990s onwards. This makes it a fairly modern neighbourhood with a mix of older and newer buildings.
A Look at Swinton's Past
Swinton started as a small community. In the early 1790s, the first homes appeared. These were cottages for people who wove cotton by hand. Later, in the 1920s, more houses were built. Even more homes were added in the 1970s. This shows how Swinton has developed over many years.
Getting Around Swinton
It's easy to travel from Swinton to other parts of Glasgow. The Easterhouse railway station offers direct train services right into the city centre. If you prefer buses, there are regular services. These buses run along Edinburgh Road, which is just south of Swinton. This makes it simple for residents to get where they need to go.
Schools in Swinton
Families in Swinton have local schools for their children. Swinton Primary School serves the younger students in the area. It also welcomes pupils from nearby Springhill. After primary school, students usually go on to Bannerman High School. This high school is located in the Baillieston area.
