Sycamore is located near Alabama State Route 21. It is about 6.1 miles (9.8 km) north-northeast of a larger town called Sylacauga. Sycamore has its own post office and a special code for mail, which is ZIP code 35149.
The community was first known as Sycamore Grove. It got its name from the many sycamore trees that grew there. The post office in Sycamore was first opened in the year 1876.
Sycamore is also known as the birthplace of Whitey Glazner. He was a professional baseball player.
