Sycamore is a small, unincorporated community in eastern Ozark County, Missouri. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government. It's part of a larger county instead.

Sycamore is located in the beautiful Ozarks region of southern Missouri. You can find it along Route 181, about 14 miles northeast of a town called Gainesville. The original part of Sycamore sits on a ridge near Bryant Creek. This creek is a big stream that flows into the North Fork River.

In 2001, the Hodgson Mill was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized as an important historical site in the United States. Its official name on the list is Aid-Hodgson Mill.

Sycamore's History

The community of Sycamore was started in 1891. It got its name from a group of American sycamore trees that grew nearby. These trees are known for their tall, strong trunks and interesting bark.

When Sycamore first began, its post office was located inside the Hodgson Mill. This was in 1891. Later, the post office moved to the Sycamore store. It continued to serve the community until 1973.
