History of Sylvester
Sylvester was first planned out in 1893. The state government of Georgia officially made Sylvester a town in 1898.
Geography of Sylvester
Sylvester is located at a specific point on the map: 31.531425 degrees North and 83.836233 degrees West. The city covers a total area of about 6.60 square miles (17.09 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part (about 0.04 square miles or 0.10 square kilometers) being water.
The city is found along U.S. Highway 82. It is also where Georgia State Route 33 meets this highway. Another road, Georgia State Route 256, comes into the southeast part of Sylvester. This road is also known as Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
