This reservoir was built a long time ago, around the year 1900. Its main job was to provide water to nearby towns like Higham Ferrers and Rushden. It worked as a water supply from 1906 until 1979. Today, it is a beautiful country park managed by Northamptonshire County Council. The park covers a big area, about 280,000 square metres. The land for the reservoir was bought from a family estate in Mears Ashby.
