Sándor Kányádi (born May 10, 1929 – died June 20, 2018) was a famous Hungarian poet and translator. He came from the Transylvania region of Romania. Many people loved his poems, and he wrote a lot for children. His works were so good that they were translated into many languages, like English, German, and French.

About Sándor Kányádi's Life
Sándor Kányádi was born in a small Hungarian village called Porumbenii Mari. This village is in the Transylvania region. His family were farmers.
His Education and Early Career
He went to school in a nearby town called Odorheiu Secuiesc. He later moved to Cluj-Napoca in 1950. Sándor Kányádi studied at Bolyai University. He earned a degree in Hungarian language and literature. This prepared him to be a teacher.
He published his first book of poems in 1955. At that time, he was also an assistant editor. He often wrote for different literary magazines. His poems for children were, and still are, very popular.
His Work as a Translator
Kányádi was also a talented translator. He translated folk poems from different cultures. He also translated works by famous German and French poets. During the 1960s and 1970s, he traveled a lot. He gave talks to Hungarian communities around the world. He visited places like Western Europe, North America, and South America.
Standing Up for His People
Sándor Kányádi cared deeply about political issues. He often wrote about the challenges faced by the Hungarian people living in Transylvania. In 1987, the Romanian government did not let him travel. He wanted to go to a meeting for poets in Rotterdam. Because of this, he quit the Romanian Writers' Union. This was his way of protesting.
