Táňa Fischerová (born Taťana Fischerová; June 6, 1947 – December 25, 2019) was a famous Czech actress, writer, and television host. She was also a politician and a civic activist, meaning she worked to improve society. From 2002 to 2006, she was a member of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. She also ran for president in the 2013 Czech presidential election.

Early Life and Acting Career

Táňa Fischerová was born in Prague, which is the capital city of the Czech Republic. Her father, Jan Fischer, was an actor and theatre director. During World War II, her father was held in concentration camps.

Táňa studied acting at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno. However, she did not finish her studies there. In the late 1960s, she started working with the Drama Club in Prague. In 1973, she was let go from the theatre during a time called "normalization." This was a period when the government controlled many parts of life in Czechoslovakia.

After that, she worked with the Jiří Wolker Theatre for four years. She later left the theatre when her son, Kryštof, was born with cerebral palsy. She wanted to focus on caring for him. In the 1980s, she worked as an actress who was not tied to one theatre company. She worked with many important people in Czech cinema, like Jan Kačer and Karel Kachyňa.

Becoming a Civic Activist

In 1989, Táňa Fischerová signed a special paper called "Několik vět" (A Few Sentences). This paper was created by a group called Charter 77. It was a petition asking for changes in the country. Around this time, she started to become very active in civic work. This means she worked to help her community and country.

Political Journey

In 2002, Táňa Fischerová was chosen to be a member of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. She ran as an independent candidate, which means she was not part of a specific political party. She was supported by the Unie svobody-DEU party. She served in Parliament until 2006.

In 2013, she decided to run for president of the Czech Republic. She was one of three women who ran for the top job that year. The Green Party supported her campaign. Her team collected about 65,000 signatures from citizens. This was more than the 50,000 signatures needed to run. In the first round of the election, she received 3.23% of the votes. She did not get enough votes to move on to the second round.

Other Important Work

Táňa Fischerová was involved in many important organizations. She was a member of the board for the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97. This foundation helps with education, culture, and health. She was also a member of the Czech Helsinki Committee, which works for human rights. She was also part of Amnesty International, a group that protects human rights around the world.

Along with singer Marta Kubišová and film director Jan Kačer, she helped organize special charity concerts. These concerts were held every year during Advent and were shown on Czech Television.
