Timothy John Binyon (born February 18, 1936 – died October 7, 2004) was a smart English scholar and a writer of exciting crime stories. He was also the great-nephew of a famous poet named Laurence Binyon.

Who Was T. J. Binyon?
T. J. Binyon was known for his deep knowledge and his thrilling crime novels. He spent much of his life studying and teaching. His love for the Russian language and literature started when he was young.
His Early Life and Learning
T. J. Binyon was born in Leeds, England. His father was a university teacher there. When T. J. was 18, he joined a special program called National Service. He was sent to a school in Bodmin, Cornwall, to learn the Russian language.
This was in 1954, during the Cold War. Young soldiers like T. J. Binyon were trained to be translators. They would help understand messages from other countries. It was here that T. J. Binyon became very interested in Russian language and books.
Becoming a Teacher and Scholar
After his service, T. J. Binyon went to Exeter College at the University of Oxford. He decided to study German and Russian languages instead of history. After he finished his studies, he spent a year learning more in Moscow, Russia.
When he came back to England, he started teaching Russian literature. He taught at the University of Leeds first. Later, in 1968, he became a "fellow" at Wadham College in Oxford. A fellow is like a senior teacher or researcher at a college. He taught in the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages.
He also served as the "Dean" of Wadham College for many years. The Dean helps manage the college and its students. He retired from teaching in the early 2000s.
His Family and Later Years
T. J. Binyon was married two times. His first marriage was to Felicity Butterwick. Later, he married Helen Ellis.
He passed away at the age of 68. He died suddenly from heart failure at his home in Witney, Oxfordshire. He was doing research for a new book about a writer named Mikhail Lermontov when he died.
