Playing Career Highlights
Takayuki Yoshida started his football journey in high school. After graduating, he joined Yokohama Flügels in 1995. He quickly became an important player.
Early Success with Yokohama Flügels
Yoshida played many matches as a forward from his very first season. His team, Yokohama Flügels, won the 1994–95 Asian Cup Winners' Cup. This was a big achievement for the club. In 1998, the team won the Emperor's Cup. Yoshida scored the winning goal in the final match, which was a very exciting moment!
Sadly, Yokohama Flügels had to close down at the end of 1998 because of money problems. Yoshida then moved to Yokohama F. Marinos, which was a new club formed from a merger.
Moving to Other Clubs
At Yokohama F. Marinos, Yoshida didn't get to play as much. So, in 2000, he moved to Oita Trinita in the J2 League, which is Japan's second division. He played as an attacking midfielder there and was very successful. Oita Trinita won the championship in 2002. This meant they were promoted to the top division, the J1 League.
Yoshida returned to Yokohama F. Marinos in 2006. Then, in 2008, he joined his local club, Vissel Kobe. He played many games for Vissel Kobe until 2011. In 2012, he had an injury and couldn't play much. The club was then moved down to the second division. Even though he thought about retiring, he decided to play for one more year. In 2013, Vissel Kobe finished second and moved back up to the first division. Yoshida retired from playing football at the end of that season.
National Team Experience
In August 1993, when he was younger, Takayuki Yoshida was chosen to play for the Japan U-17 national team. He played in the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Championship, which was held in Japan. He played in 3 matches during this important tournament.
Coaching Career Journey
After he stopped playing, Yoshida began his coaching career at Vissel Kobe in 2015. He started as an assistant coach, helping the main coach, Nelsinho Baptista.
Becoming Head Coach at Vissel Kobe
In August 2017, the main coach, Nelsinho, left the team. Takayuki Yoshida then became the new head coach of Vissel Kobe. In July 2017, Vissel Kobe signed Lukas Podolski, a famous German player who had won the FIFA World Cup. Even with this big signing, Vissel Kobe finished 9th in the 2017 season.
In 2018, Vissel Kobe signed another amazing player, Andrés Iniesta, a Spanish player who also won the FIFA World Cup. With Iniesta, Vissel Kobe moved up to 4th place for a while. However, their performance later dropped, and Yoshida resigned in September when the team was in 10th place.
He became manager again in April 2019, taking over from Juan Manuel Lillo. But the team only won 1 out of 7 matches, and he resigned again in June.
Current Role and Success
Takayuki Yoshida is currently the manager of Vissel Kobe. He took on this role again in June 2022. Under his leadership, Vissel Kobe has achieved great success. They won the J1 League title in both 2023 and 2024, showing how well he can lead a team. They also won the Emperor's Cup in 2024.
