Talagante Province (in Spanish: Provincia de Talagante) is one of six provinces in the Santiago Metropolitan Region of central Chile. Its main city and capital is Talagante. This city is located about 35 kilometers (22 miles) southwest of Santiago, which is the capital of Chile. A small part of the province is also included in the larger Santiago city area.

How Talagante is Governed
As a province, Talagante is a second-level administrative division in Chile. It is managed by a special leader called a Presidential Provincial Delegate. This delegate is chosen by the President of Chile. Their job is to make sure the province runs smoothly.
Local Communes in Talagante
The province is made up of five smaller areas called communes (comunas in Spanish). Each commune has its own local government. This government includes an alcalde (which is like a mayor) and a municipal council. These are the five communes:

Geography and Population
Talagante Province covers an area of 582.3 square kilometers (224.8 square miles). It is the smallest province in the Santiago Metropolitan Region.
According to the 2002 census, Talagante was the fourth most populated province in its region. It had a total of 188,572 people living there. Most of these people (188,572) lived in urban areas, which are cities and towns. About 28,877 people lived in rural areas, which are countryside areas. The population was made up of 107,935 men and 109,514 women.
