The Talbot Memorial Bridge (Irish: Droichead Cuimhneacháin an Talbóidigh) is a road bridge in Dublin, Ireland. It crosses the River Liffey right in the middle of the city. This bridge was finished in 1978. It helps people and cars get from one side of Dublin to the other.
About the Talbot Memorial Bridge
This bridge is about 22 meters (72 feet) wide. It was designed by a group of engineers called De Leuw, Chadwick and O’hEocha. They finished building it in 1978. The bridge is an important link in Dublin's city center.
Connecting Dublin's Sides
The Talbot Memorial Bridge connects different parts of Dublin. On the north side of the river, it links to Memorial Road. This road is also known as Custom House Quay. On the south side, the bridge connects to Moss Street. This street is part of City Quay.
Memorial Road was named to remember brave people. These were members of the Dublin Brigade. They died during the Irish War of Independence. This was a time when Ireland was fighting for its freedom. Many of them died in a raid near the Custom House.
Who Was Matt Talbot?
The "Talbot" part of the bridge's name remembers Matt Talbot. He was a very well-known person from Dublin's Northside. Matt Talbot believed in living a disciplined life. He encouraged people to make good choices for themselves.
There is a statue of Matt Talbot. You can find it at the south end of the bridge. It stands there to honor his memory.
