Tamaree is a small, quiet area in Queensland, Australia. It's a place where people live in homes spread out in the countryside. It's part of the Gympie Region. In 2021, about 1,000 people lived there.
Where is Tamaree?
Tamaree is about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) north of Gympie's main town center. Old Maryborough Road forms the western edge of Tamaree.
The North Coast railway line runs through Tamaree. It comes in from the south-west, near Banks Pocket. Then it leaves to the north, heading towards Corella. Tamaree has its own railway station. Most of the land in Tamaree is used for homes with large blocks of land, giving it a rural feel.
Tamaree's Past
Tamaree used to have its own school. Tamaree Provisional School first opened on 12 July 1904. It later became Tamaree State School on 1 January 1909. However, the school closed its doors on 31 March 1965.
A notable event in Tamaree's history happened on 18 October 1947. At the Tamaree railway station, two trains crashed into each other. A train heading north towards Townsville collided with a train from Rockhampton that was stopped. Many people were on both trains. Sadly, two crew members and six passengers lost their lives in this accident.
