About Tami Neilson
Tami grew up in a musical family called The Neilsons. She performed with her parents and two brothers all over North America. She still works with her brother, Joshua "Jay" Neilson, on many of her songs. Jay also helped produce her first three albums. These albums were Red Dirt Angel (2008), The Kitchen Table Sessions, Vol. 1 (2009), and The Kitchen Table Sessions, Vol. II (2011).
Tami and Jay also helped create music for a New Zealand TV show. It was called The Brokenwood Mysteries. They added many songs to the first season's soundtrack. Then, in 2015, they worked together to score the music for the second season.
Her album Don't Be Afraid (2015) was very popular. It reached number 3 on the New Zealand Music Charts. Her album before that, Dynamite! (2014), was even named one of the top ten country albums of 2014 by The Guardian newspaper.
In 2020, Tami won an award for her song "Hey, Bus Driver." This song was from her album Chickaboom!. In 2017, Tami was also featured in a TV show. It was a documentary called Prime Rocks: The New Sound of Country.
Tami's 2022 album, Kingmaker, was a big hit. It included a special song called "Beyond the Stars." This song was a duet with the famous country music singer Willie Nelson. They even performed it live together at a concert in March 2022.
Kingmaker reached number 1 on the New Zealand charts in July 2022. After that, Tami performed a sold-out concert with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. She also went on a national tour. During this tour, she sang "Beyond The Stars" with Bret McKenzie in Wellington. Tami also performed at music festivals in Canada and Denmark that year.
You might have heard Tami's songs on TV shows. Her music has been featured on Wanted, Nashville, and The Sounds. In 2022, Tami herself appeared on The Brokenwood Mysteries. She performed her song "Ten Tonne Truck" in an episode called "Good as Gold."
