The Tamyen language is sometimes called Santa Clara Costanoan. This name was also used for the Native American people who lived in the Santa Clara Valley. Tamyen is part of the larger Utian family of languages.
Where Was Tamyen Spoken?
Tamyen was the main language spoken by Native Americans at the first two Mission Santa Clara sites. Both of these missions were founded in 1777. The language was important to the people living in the Santa Clara Valley.
Tamyen and Other Languages
Experts believe that Tamyen was very similar to two other languages. These were the Chochenyo and Ramaytush languages. They might have even been different ways of speaking the same language.
