Starting with Xscape (1990–1999)
The group Xscape was formed in 1990. It included Tamika Scott, her sister LaTocha Scott, Kandi Burruss, and Tameka Cottle. They all met at Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia. In 1991, they sang at a birthday party for music producer Jermaine Dupri. He was so impressed that he signed them to his record label, So So Def.
Xscape released their first song, "Just Kickin' It", in August 1993. Their first album, Hummin' Comin' at 'Cha, came out in October 1993. It made them a popular group in the music world. In 1995, they released their second album, Off the Hook, which sold over a million copies. This album included hits like "Feels So Good" and "Who Can I Run To", where Tamika sang lead. After Xscape took a break, Tamika started working on a gospel album in 1998. She even worked with famous gospel singers BeBe & CeCe Winans. However, when Xscape briefly got back together in 2000, she put her gospel album aside.

In 2005, Xscape reunited with Tamika, Tameka Cottle, and LaTocha Scott, plus a new member, Kiesha Miles.
