About Tamika Scott

Early Life and Family

Tamika Scott was born in College Park, Georgia. Her mother, Gloria McFarlin, was a teacher. Her father, Randolph Scott, was a pastor and used to sing in an R&B group called The Scott Three. Tamika's older sister, LaTocha Scott, is also a singer and was in Xscape with her.

From a young age, Tamika was encouraged to sing. She performed in church and at local talent shows. She graduated from Tri-Cities High School in 1993.

Music Career

Starting with Xscape (1990–1999)

The group Xscape was formed in 1990. It included Tamika Scott, her sister LaTocha Scott, Kandi Burruss, and Tameka Cottle. They all met at Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia. In 1991, they sang at a birthday party for music producer Jermaine Dupri. He was so impressed that he signed them to his record label, So So Def.

Xscape released their first song, "Just Kickin' It", in August 1993. Their first album, Hummin' Comin' at 'Cha, came out in October 1993. It made them a popular group in the music world. In 1995, they released their second album, Off the Hook, which sold over a million copies. This album included hits like "Feels So Good" and "Who Can I Run To", where Tamika sang lead. Off the Hook won a Soul Train Music Award in 1996.

In April 1998, Xscape released "The Arms of the One Who Loves You", with Tamika as a co-lead singer. This song became a top-ten hit and sold many copies. Their third album, Traces of My Lipstick, was released in May 1998. It also sold over a million copies. Another popular song from this album was "My Little Secret". In 2000, the group decided to take a break to work on their own projects.

Solo Work and Reunions (2000–2016)

After Xscape took a break, Tamika started working on a gospel album in 1998. She even worked with famous gospel singers BeBe & CeCe Winans. However, when Xscape briefly got back together in 2000, she put her gospel album aside.

In 2004, Tamika started acting. She played the character Milay Brown in Tyler Perry's play Meet the Browns. In 2005, Xscape reunited with Tamika, Tameka Cottle, and LaTocha Scott, plus a new member, Kiesha Miles. They recorded an album called Unchained, but it was not officially released after their single "What's Up" didn't become a big hit.

Tamika also released her own songs. In 2007, her song Greatest Gift was on the soundtrack for the movie Daddy's Little Girls. She also helped write and produce other songs for the same soundtrack. In 2007, she sang the title song for the movie Why Did I Get Married?.

In 2009, Tamika was featured on a song called "Pull On My Weave" by Phoenix the Fire Starter. In 2010, she released her own song, "Say Aah". In 2013, Tamika and LaTocha Scott performed as Xscape at the So So Def 20th Anniversary Concert. In 2015, the original members of Xscape appeared in a TV show called Unsung, which talked about their success and challenges.

Xscape Reunion and New Projects (2017–Present)

On June 25, 2017, Xscape reunited and performed at the BET Awards 2017. It was their first performance together in 18 years. In November 2017, they started their own tour called The Great Xscape Tour. They also had a reality show called Xscape: Still Kickin' It on the Bravo network. The show followed the group as they prepared for their tour and worked through their differences.

After the tour, Kandi Burruss left the group. The remaining members continued as a trio called Xscap3. In March 2018, Xscap3 released an album called Here for It.

In December 2019, Tamika Scott released her own album, Family Affair. It included songs like "Almost Over" and "Go Outside in the Rain". In 2021, Tamika launched her own brand of food seasonings called Southern Fuse. On May 17, 2022, she released her cookbook, "Table Set, Cooking with Tamika Scott".
