She sang lead on some of Xscape's biggest songs like "Love on My Mind" and "Who Can I Run To". These songs were very popular, reaching high spots on the Billboard music charts. They also sold millions of copies, earning platinum and gold awards.

When Xscape took a break, Tamika started acting. She appeared in Tyler Perry's play Meet the Browns in 2004. In 2017, she reunited with Xscape for a tour. She later released her own music and started a line of seasonings and a cookbook.

Early Life and Music Start

Tamika Scott was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She started singing in church, at weddings, and in local talent shows when she was just 4 years old. By age 9, she had recorded her first song with her sister, LaTocha.

Tamika went to Tri-Cities High School of Performing Arts in Atlanta. She later graduated from Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia, in 1993.

Forming Xscape

While in high school, Tamika met Kandi Burruss. Tamika, her sister LaTocha, and Kandi started singing together. They soon added a fourth member, Tamera Coggins, but she didn't stay long. Then, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle joined, and the group Xscape was officially formed.

In 1992, Xscape performed on BET's Teen Summit. This performance helped them meet music executive Ian Burke, who became their manager. Soon, Jermaine Dupri, a famous record producer, noticed the group. He signed Xscape to his record label, So So Def Recordings.

Xscape's Rise to Fame

The group also contributed to movie soundtracks. They had songs on The Mask soundtrack and the 1995 film Panther.

In 1995, Xscape released their second album, Off the Hook. This album also sold over a million copies. It included popular songs like "Feel So Good" and "Who Can I Run To". Tamika Scott sang lead on "Who Can I Run To".

Xscape also appeared on MC Lyte's song "Keep On, Keepin' On" in 1996. This song was very successful, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Later Success and Break

In 1997, Xscape got new management. They released their third album, Traces of My Lipstick, in 1998. This album featured two more top 10 hits: "The Arms of the One Who Loves You" and "My Little Secret".

Around this time, the group started to have some changes. Tamika's sister, LaTocha Scott, decided to leave Xscape in 1999 to start her own solo career. After this, the group went on a break.
