The Tamworth Central Business District (often called the CBD) is the busy heart of Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia. It is located right in the city centre, just north of the Peel River. This area is the main hub for businesses in Tamworth. You will find many shops, tasty restaurants, and even car dealerships here. It also has big shopping centres and important public buildings. The main office for the Tamworth Regional Council is located on Peel Street. You can also visit Bicentennial Park and the number one cricket oval in this lively part of town.

Peel Street: The Main Hub

Peel Street is the most important street in Tamworth's CBD. Most of the shops and shopping centres are found here. This street was named after a former British Prime Minister, Robert Peel. It was updated in the 1990s to make it look nicer and more modern.

You can find hundreds of shops along Peel Street. There are also many restaurants, outdoor cafes, and banks. Some of the well-known places include a large Target department store. You will also see major banks like ANZ, Commonwealth, Westpac, and St George.

Centrepoint Shopping Centre

Centrepoint Shopping Centre is a large shopping area that opened in 2008. It was a big project, costing $35 million to build! It is located behind the Tamworth Town Hall. This centre connects to an older arcade, and together they form Centrepoint Shopping Centre.

When it first opened, it had a Franklins supermarket. It also featured five cinemas and a performing arts centre. This centre could even be used as a cinema too. You could also find a cool bowling alley and karaoke spot. There were many restaurants, a food court, and 40 specialty shops. Later, the Franklins supermarket closed. Its space was divided into two new stores: an Aldi supermarket and a JB Hi-Fi electronics store.

Tamworth City Plaza

Tamworth City Plaza is another big shopping centre in the CBD. It has 42 different shops for you to explore. You can find major stores like Coles and Kmart here. There is also a Liquorland and many fresh food shops. You can buy clothes, gifts, and find various services. Plus, there is a food court where you can grab a bite to eat.

The Atrium

The Atrium is a shopping centre with entrances from Peel Street and Kable Avenue. It has recently been updated. This upgrade brought in new and unique shops.
