Tara Morice (born 23 June 1964) is an Australian actress, singer, and dancer. She is famous for her role as Fran in the popular 1992 movie Strictly Ballroom.

Early Life and Education

Tara Morice was born in Hobart, Tasmania. As a child, she moved around a lot with her family, living in cities like Sydney, Alice Springs, and Adelaide. Because of this, she attended seven different schools.

Her family has lived in Australia for five generations. She has English, Irish, Scottish, Latvian, and French ancestors.

Morice started acting at a young age. When she was 16, she performed in a play called The Diary of Anne Frank at the Theatre Royal in Hobart, which is Australia's oldest theatre. Before becoming a professional actress, she earned a degree in Australian History and English from the Australian National University. In 1987, she graduated from the famous acting school, the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA).

Acting Career

Tara Morice has had a long and successful career in acting, both on stage and in movies and television.

Stage Performances

Morice has worked with many of Australia's top theatre companies. These include the Sydney Theatre Company, Bell Shakespeare Company, and the Belvoir Theatre Company.

One of her first major roles was playing Fran in the original stage play of Strictly Ballroom in 1988. This was before it became a famous movie. She was part of director Baz Luhrmann's special group of actors.

She has been nominated for awards for her work in musical theatre. This includes a nomination for the musical Fat Swan in 2012 and for The Venetian Twins.

Film and Television Roles

Her big break in movies came in 1992 when she played Fran in the film version of Strictly Ballroom. Her performance was so good that she was nominated for a BAFTA award for Best Actress.

She also sang on the movie's soundtrack. She performed a duet of the song Time After Time with singer Mark Williams.

In 2008, Morice directed a documentary called My Biggest Fan. The film is about her friendship with an American fan who wrote to her after seeing Strictly Ballroom. The documentary was shown at a film festival and on Australian television.

She has also continued to sing, recording Time After Time again for a Baz Luhrmann album and singing on several movie soundtracks.
