Tarik Bernard Black (born November 22, 1991) is an American professional basketball player. He plays as a center for LDLC ASVEL in France. This team is part of the LNB Élite league and the EuroLeague. Tarik has also played for famous teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before turning pro, he played college basketball for the University of Memphis and the University of Kansas.

High School Basketball Years
Tarik Black went to Ridgeway High School in Memphis, Tennessee. In his junior year (2008–09), he scored about 15.7 points and grabbed 11.8 rebounds per game. He helped his team, the Roadrunners, win a District 15-AAA title.
In his senior year (2009–10), he averaged 16.3 points and 12.6 rebounds. The Roadrunners had a great season with 26 wins and only 3 losses. They won their second District 15-AAA title.
College Basketball Journey
Playing for Memphis (2010–2013)
As a freshman at Memphis, Tarik played in 35 games and started 24 of them. He averaged 9.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Because of his great start, he was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team.
In his second year, he played in all 35 games and started 31. He averaged 10.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. Tarik set a new Memphis record for shooting accuracy, making 68.9 percent of his shots. He was also chosen for the All-Conference USA second team and the All-Defensive team.
During his junior year, Tarik played in 32 games. He averaged 8.1 points and 4.8 rebounds. He was also recognized for having the highest grades on his team.
Playing for Kansas (2013–2014)
After graduating from Memphis, Tarik Black moved to the University of Kansas in May 2013. He was able to play right away for the Jayhawks. In his only season there, he was named the Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year.
He scored a season-high 19 points in one game, making all 9 of his shots. This was one of the best shooting performances by a Jayhawk player since 1990. Overall, he averaged 5.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game for Kansas.
Professional Basketball Career
Houston Rockets (2014)
After college, Tarik was not chosen in the 2014 NBA draft. However, he joined the Houston Rockets for their Summer League games. He signed with the Rockets in August 2014. He played in 25 games before the Rockets decided to let him go in December 2014.
Los Angeles Lakers (2014–2017)
Just two days later, in December 2014, the Los Angeles Lakers picked up Tarik. This meant he could continue playing in the NBA. He was sometimes sent to the Los Angeles D-Fenders, a team in the NBA Development League, to get more playing time.
In April 2015, he had one of his best games with the Lakers. He scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Tarik re-signed with the Lakers in August 2016 but was later released in July 2017.
Return to Houston (2017–2018)
In July 2017, Tarik Black signed with the Houston Rockets again. This was his second time playing for the team.
Maccabi Tel Aviv (2018–2020)
In August 2018, Tarik signed a one-year deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv, a team in Israel that plays in the EuroLeague. In April 2019, he had a career-high game, scoring 23 points and getting seven rebounds.
He also played in the 2019 Israeli League All-Star Game. Tarik helped Maccabi win the Israeli League championship title. He was also named to the All-Israeli League Second Team. He signed a new contract with Maccabi in June 2019 but left the team in May 2020.
Zenit Saint Petersburg (2021)
In January 2021, Tarik Black joined Zenit Saint Petersburg, a team in Russia. He played for them in the VTB United League and the EuroLeague. He left the Russian club in July 2021.
Grand Rapids Gold (2021–2022)
In September 2021, Tarik signed with the Denver Nuggets. He then joined the Grand Rapids Gold, which is a team connected to the Nuggets. He played 15 games there, averaging 11.5 points and 7.9 rebounds.
Bahçeşehir Koleji (2022)
In February 2022, Tarik signed with Bahçeşehir Koleji, a team in the Turkish Basketball Super League (BSL).
Olympiacos (2022–2023)
In July 2022, Tarik signed a one-year deal with Olympiacos, a team in Greece that also plays in the EuroLeague. He played in 35 EuroLeague games, averaging 4.4 points. He was released from the club in July 2023.
Pallacanestro Reggiana (2024)
In February 2024, Tarik Black signed with Pallacanestro Reggiana, a team in Italy.
LDLC ASVEL (2024-present)
In July 2024, Tarik signed with LDLC ASVEL in France. This is his current team, playing in the LNB Élite and EuroLeague.
Personal Life
Tarik Black's parents are Lawrence and Judith Black. He has two brothers named Bilal and Amal.
Tarik is also very smart! He earned his first college degree from the University of Memphis. Then, he got his second degree, a master's degree, from the University of Kansas.
