Tarik Bernard Black is an American professional basketball player. He was born on November 22, 1991. Tarik plays as a center for LDLC ASVEL. This team is part of the LNB Élite (LNB) and Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

Before playing overseas, Tarik was in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets. Tarik also played college basketball for the University of Memphis and the University of Kansas.

Tarik Black's High School Days

Tarik Black went to Ridgeway High School. This school is in Memphis, Tennessee.

  • He helped his team, the Roadrunners, win 26 games and a District 15-AAA title.

Playing College Basketball

Tarik Black played college basketball for two different universities. He started at Memphis and then moved to Kansas.

At the University of Memphis

Tarik played for the Memphis Tigers from 2010 to 2013.

  • In his first year, he played in all 35 games.
  • He started 24 of those games.
  • He averaged 9.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
  • He was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team.
  • In his second year, he played in all 35 games and started 31.

  • He was recognized for having the highest grades on his team.

Moving to the University of Kansas

On May 20, 2013, Tarik moved to the University of Kansas. He had already earned his degree from Memphis. This meant he could play right away for the Jayhawks.

  • In his only season with Kansas, he was named the Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the Year.
  • He averaged 15.0 points per game in the NCAA tournament.
  • He scored a season-high 19 points on Senior Night.

First Steps with the Houston Rockets

After the 2014 NBA draft, Tarik was not chosen by any team. However, he joined the Houston Rockets for the 2014 NBA Summer League.

  • On December 26, 2014, the Rockets decided to let him go.

Playing for the Los Angeles Lakers

Just two days later, on December 28, 2014, the Los Angeles Lakers picked up Tarik.

Back with the Houston Rockets

Playing Overseas: Maccabi Tel Aviv

On August 20, 2018, Tarik signed a one-year deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv. This is an Israeli team that plays in the EuroLeague.

  • He also had seven rebounds in a close game against Fenerbahçe.

On January 14, 2021, Tarik Black signed with Zenit Saint Petersburg. This Russian team plays in the VTB United League and the EuroLeague.

In the NBA G League: Grand Rapids Gold

On September 27, 2021, Tarik signed with the Denver Nuggets. He then joined the Grand Rapids Gold as a related player.

Tarik Black is the son of Lawrence and Judith Black. He has two brothers named Bilal and Amal.

Tarik earned his first college degree from the University of Memphis. He then got his advanced degree from the University of Kansas.
