College Football Career
Jackson started his college career at Coastal Carolina. In his first year, he got injured after four games. This meant he couldn't play for the rest of the season. He used a "medical redshirt," which allowed him to keep that year of eligibility.
First Seasons and Injuries
In his second year, he played in eight games. Unfortunately, he got injured again and missed the rest of the season. Even with the injury, he managed to get 3.5 sacks and force one fumble. A forced fumble is when a player knocks the ball out of an opponent's hands.
Becoming a Strong Player
As a redshirt sophomore, Jackson started all 12 games for his team. He made 58 tackles and had 11 tackles for loss. He also recorded three sacks. For his strong performance, he was named third-team All-Sun Belt Conference.
Record-Breaking Performance
In his redshirt junior year, Jackson was named first-team All-Sun Belt. He set a new school record with ten sacks. He also had 60 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles.
Senior Year Success
During his final college season, Jackson continued to excel. He had 54 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks. He also forced three fumbles. Because of his outstanding play, he was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He also earned first-team All-Conference honors. The Associated Press recognized him as a first-team All-American. This means he was considered one of the best college football players in the entire country.
