Tarzan and the Super 7 was a fun Saturday morning cartoon show. It was made by a company called Filmation and first aired on CBS from 1978 to 1980. This show brought together many different heroes for exciting adventures!
The show featured seven different groups of adventurers. Each week, you could watch a mix of their stories. It was like getting seven shows in one!
Meet the Super 7 Heroes
This series was special because it combined seven different cartoon segments. Here are the heroes you could watch:
- Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle: Follow the adventures of Tarzan in the jungle.
- The New Adventures of Batman: Join Batman and Robin as they fight crime in Gotham City.
- The Freedom Force: This team included powerful heroes like Isis, Super-Samurai, Sinbad, Merlin, and Hercules.
- Jason of Star Command: This was the only part of the show that used real actors, not cartoons! It was a live-action space adventure.
- Manta and Moray: Dive into underwater adventures with these two heroes.
- Superstretch and Microwoman: This duo had amazing powers. Superstretch could stretch his body, and Microwoman could shrink to tiny sizes.
- Web Woman: She was a hero who could create strong webs and swing through the air.
How the Show Changed Over Time
Tarzan and the Super 7 was an updated version of an earlier show called The Batman/Tarzan Adventure Hour. That show aired in 1977 and 1978. In the older show, Tarzan and Batman each had their own separate half-hour episodes. Each episode even had its own opening and closing songs! Before that, Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle (1976) and The New Adventures of Batman (1977) were completely separate shows.
Batman and the Super 7 Continues
After Tarzan and the Super 7 finished its first run, it got a new name and moved to a different TV channel. From 1980 to 1981, NBC aired repeat episodes under the title Batman and the Super 7.
This new version of the show was an hour long. It still featured most of the original 'Super 7' segments. However, Jason of Star Command and Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle were no longer part of it. The Tarzan show continued to air repeats on CBS as part of The Tarzan/Lone Ranger Adventure Hour. Later, that show was renamed The Tarzan/Lone Ranger/Zorro Adventure Hour. Also, the half-hour episodes of The New Adventures of Batman were cut down into shorter, 10-minute parts for Batman and the Super 7.
