Tatev Abrahamyan (Armenian: Տաթև Աբրահամյան) is a talented chess player from Armenia and the United States. She was born on January 13, 1988. Tatev holds a special title in chess called Woman Grandmaster (WGM). This is one of the highest honors a female chess player can achieve.

Early Life and Education

Tatev Abrahamyan moved from Armenia to the United States in 2001. She settled in Glendale, California. For her high school education, she attended Anderson W. Clark Magnet High School in La Crescenta.

After high school, Tatev went to college. In 2011, she graduated from California State University, Long Beach. She studied two different subjects there: psychology and political science.

Chess Career Highlights

Tatev Abrahamyan has had many successes in her chess career. She started playing in big tournaments when she was young.

Youth Chess Achievements

In 1999, Tatev competed in the Girls Under 12 section of the European Youth Chess Championship. She tied for first place with two other players. After a tiebreak, she earned the bronze medal.

She continued to excel in youth tournaments. In 2006, Tatev won the Girls Under 18 section of the Pan American Youth Chess Festival. This event took place in Cuenca, Ecuador. She achieved a perfect score, winning all nine of her games.

U.S. Women's Championship

Tatev has often performed very well in the U.S. Women's Chess Championship. In 2005, she tied for first place in this important tournament. However, she lost the final playoff match to Rusudan Goletiani.

She also tied for second place in the 2010 U.S. Women's Championship. The winner that year was Irina Krush. Tatev finished second again in 2011. She played a special tiebreak game called "Armageddon" against Anna Zatonskih.

International Competitions

Tatev Abrahamyan has represented the United States on the world stage. She competed in the Women's World Chess Championship in both 2012 and 2015.

She has also been a part of the U.S. team in other major events. These include the Women's Chess Olympiad. She also played in the Women's World Team Chess Championship.

Special Recognition

In 2008, Tatev Abrahamyan received the Goddess Chess Award. This award recognized her exciting and determined style of play.
