Tatsuya Ishikawa (石川 竜也, born December 25, 1979) is a Japanese former football player. He played as a defender. Ishikawa was born in Fujieda, Japan. He played for several clubs during his career, including Kashima Antlers, Tokyo Verdy, and Montedio Yamagata. He also represented Japan at the youth international level.

Playing Career

Club Journey

Tatsuya Ishikawa started his professional football journey after finishing university. In 2002, he joined the Kashima Antlers club. He slowly began to play more often as a left side defender.

During his time with Kashima Antlers, the team had some great moments. They won the 2002 J.League Cup. They also finished second in the 2002 Emperor's Cup and the 2003 J.League Cup.

In May 2006, Ishikawa moved to Tokyo Verdy. There, he got more chances to play in matches. The next year, in 2007, he joined Montedio Yamagata. This is where he spent a big part of his career.

At Montedio Yamagata, Ishikawa became a very important player. He was a regular left side defender for many years. In 2014, he even played a different role as a left stopper in a three-defender system. He played for Montedio Yamagata until he retired from football at the end of the 2017 season.

National Team Experience

Tatsuya Ishikawa also played for his country. In April 1999, while he was still a student at the University of Tsukuba, he was chosen for the Japan U-20 national team.

He played in the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship. This was a big tournament for young players from around the world. Ishikawa played in five matches during this championship. His team, Japan, performed very well and finished in second place.
