The Taykwa Tagamou Nation, also known as New Post First Nation, is a Cree First Nation group. They have their own special land, called a reserve, located in the Cochrane District in Ontario, Canada. This community is right along the Abitibi River. As of March 2012, there were 440 people officially registered with the Nation. About 123 of these people lived on their reserves.

How Taykwa Tagamou Nation is Governed

The Taykwa Tagamou Nation uses its own special way to choose its leaders. This is called a custom electoral system. In this system, a chief and four councillors are chosen to lead for four years.

Current Leaders of the Nation

The current leaders were chosen in the last election. The chief is Bruce Archibald, and the deputy chief is Derek T. Archibald. The councillors are William Archibald, George Ross, Melissa Archibald, and Stanley Sutherland. There is also a youth councillor, Jamal Gagnon, who represents the younger members of the community. Their time in office will end around October 12, 2025.

Agreements and Alliances

The Taykwa Tagamou Nation is part of an important agreement called Treaty 9. Because of this, they are also a member of the Mushkegowuk Council. This council helps different First Nations groups work together on regional issues. The Nation is also part of Nishnawbe Aski Nation. This is a larger group that speaks for most First Nations in northern Ontario.

Taykwa Tagamou Nation's Reserves

The Taykwa Tagamou Nation has two special areas of land set aside for them. These are called reserves.

New Post 69 Reserve

One of their reserves is called New Post 69. It is quite large, covering about 2,072 hectares (which is about 5,120 acres).

New Post 69A Reserve

The other reserve is New Post 69A. This reserve is smaller, about 116.80 hectares (or 288.6 acres). It is the main place where the community lives.
