Taykwa Tagamou Nation facts for kids
Taykwa Tagamou Nation (ᑕᐟᑾ ᑕᑲᒪᐤ ᐃᓂᓂᐗᐠ tatkwa takamaw ininiwak), once called New Post First Nation, is a Cree First Nation community. They live in the Cochrane District of Ontario, Canada. Their home is along the Abitibi River. As of March 2012, about 440 people were registered members of the Nation. Of these, 123 people lived on their own lands.

How the Nation is Led
The Taykwa Tagamou Nation uses its own special way to choose its leaders. This is called a custom electoral system. In this system, a chief and four councillors are chosen. They serve for four years.
Current Leaders
The leaders who were in charge until October 12, 2025, included Chief Bruce Archibald. He was re-elected to his role. The Deputy Chief was Derek T. Archibald. The councillors were William Archibald, George Ross, Melissa Archibald, and Stanley Sutherland. Jamal Gagnon was the youth councillor.
Nation's Connections
The Taykwa Tagamou Nation is part of an important agreement called Treaty 9. Because of this, they are also a member of the Mushkegowuk Council. This council helps different First Nations work together. They are also part of Nishnawbe Aski Nation. This is a larger group that represents many First Nations in northern Ontario.
Where the Nation Lives
The Taykwa Tagamou Nation has two special areas of land set aside for them. These are called reserves.
The Reserves
- New Post 69 is one reserve. It is about 2,072 hectares (5,120 acres) in size.
- New Post 69A is the other reserve. This is their main community area. It is about 116.80 hectares (288.6 acres) in size.
